As a comprehensive and theoretical publication sponsored by Zhejiang University and supervised by China’s Ministry of Education, The Journal of Zhejiang University (Humanities and Social Science) was founded in 1955 and has a wide coverage of basic subjects, latest and most cutting-edge subjects and inter-disciplinary subjects, including Literature, History, Philosophy, Politics, Economics and Law. Enjoying a high reputation, our journal follows the principle of “Seeking truth and pursuing innovation” and strictly sticks to academic standard. JZU is one of the first to adopt a bi-directional anonymous review process of all the submitted manuscripts (started in 1998) among more than 3,000 periodicals of humanities and social sciences all over China. It has received a frequent media coverage by such authoritative newspapers as Guangming Daily. JZU also receives much praise from China’s Ministry of Education. Many journals in China take interests in our bi-directional anonymous review process.
In 2008, JZU received more than 6,900 articles and papers, but only published 138.The rejection rate of the journal amounts to 98%. That simply shows we have a wide selection for better articles and papers. Recently, JZU has been praised as a highly theoretical periodical with “strict academic discipline and high standard of outlook” by many scholars from all over the country.
To do better, our journal relies on the good manuscript source from all over the world. We’re the earliest to put forward the faith “over colleges, over countries” in the countrywide journalistic circles. At present, we do not limit the contributions to authors in China. Contributions from international authors are welcome and steadily increased in adoption. JZU has so far published papers by scholars from the USA, the UK, Germany, Canada, Japan, Korea, India, and so on. We have also expanded our editorial board by inviting world-famous scholars like Professor Tu Weiming, Professor Ulrich Steinmuller as our editors. At the same time, we have invited the famous experts at home and abroad as the moderators of every column. In the second half of the year, we’ll plan to invite the famous overseas experts to be members of the editorial board of our journal.
The international circulation of JZU has increased year after year. According to the new online statistics, in recent three years, only the downloaded frequency of CNKI has amounted to 245089, the visit quantity of website to 511749.In 2008, the web download rate of CNKI was 81%,ranked 9th in more than 2000 acedemic journals all over the country, which inclued social sciences and nutural sciences. In the past few years, JZU has great influences under some important evaluation systems of Documentation Measurement both at home and abroad. The quoted frequency ranked top three for continuous 4 years among all the academic journals of comprehensive universities in China. In 2008,the impact factor and quoted frequency ranked 3rd in the most famous database CNKI. There are 18 academic journals of which the impact factor is more than 1.0 in more than 2000 acedemic journals all over the country, which inclued social sciences and nutural sciences. JZU is one of them. And the citation rate is 99.1%. The percentage of funded thesis in JZU ranked first among more than 3,000 humanities and social sciences periodicals all over China.
Simply because JZU shows a highly theoretical level, it is selected to the Journal of Chinese Periodical Square Matrix in 2005 and Prestigious Journal Project in 2006. Also JZU is the core periodical among all the journals of humanities and social science in China and source periodical of CSA.
JZU is the earliest one of the journals of humanities and social sciences which is geared to international standards. We also follow international editorial convention in editing. The abstract of every published paper is over 1,000 characters. The reference literature ws translated into English in 2007. And to ensure quality, we have invited English professors in our university to proofread all the English translations. In 2008, the result of the project “Language and editing quality of English abstracts of essays in academic journals published in 2008 in China” assigned by the General Administration of Press and Publication of People’s Republic of China revealed JZU was the only one qualified journal in the non-foreign lanuage journals.
JZU had been selected to the Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) in 2002,included Linguistics & Language Behavior Abstracts, Sociological Abstracts, and Worldwide Political Science Abstracts. At that time, in the CSA, there’re only 11 journals from China. In 2003,JZU had been selected to the Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory. In 2009,JZU had been selected to Index Copernicus(IC).Just as influential medias such as the Guangming Daily pointed out, this means JZU is stepping into whole world, and its scale and referee system are in accordance with the international standard, and it also setups a platform for scholars of humanities and social sciences in Zhejiang University to have direct communication with international scholars, and this laid fundation for JZU to become a journal of world standard.
