Abstract It's apparently scientific that″citation counts″such as″Number of Journals in Category″,″Number of Articles in Category and Impact Factor″are employed as criterion measures for assessing the impact of core journals . However , a further discussion is called for whether it's reasonable to exclude language/editing quality index from the selective conditions for core journals . The article elaborates the need for improving the selective conditions for core journals in China by explaining the relation between language/editing quality and journal assessment through revealing the result of the project″Language/ Editing quality of English abstracts of essays in academic journals published in 2008 in China″assigned by the General Administration of Press and Publication of People's Republic of China , and case-analyses are synchronously provided .
