Abstract The embroidered subject 'Cujin' was frequently mentioned in the poems of the Tang and Five Dynasties.Five embroidered pieces of clothes made with the skill of 'Cujin' have been unearthed from the underground palace of Famen Temple; they are the real proof of this object and lend support to the notion in poems. At the same time, they reveal a degree of Buddhist significance. The 'Cujin' is a kind of embroidery craft which uses tightly twisted gold threads to make wrinkled fabric. This kind of embroidery shows the most intensive texture and the most beautiful body.It was very popular among the royals and some nobles in the Tang Dynasty and was often used for daily use or decoration. So poets like to use 'Cujin' in their poems to show the living situations of the aristocratic society.Based on its superiority,'Cujin' makes a big difference in representation in poems when compared to 'Panjin','Lüjin' and 'Tiejin'.It can be concluded that this special object in poems has a rich cultural connotation.
